The Department of Social Work was established in the year 2004. We envision our department to be the launching pad for those who wish to pursue career as professionally qualified, internationally acceptable social workers who are well anchored in values of life.

The programme offers specialisation in Medical and Psychiatry and Community Development.  The MSW students shall undergo field practicum which is the signature pedagogy of this course provides a scope to integrate theory with practicum as well as to develop a commitment to social work profession.Apart from the curricular activities, the faculty of the department has undertaken a wide range of initiatives. They are part of various advisory boards and consultants in governmental and non governmental agencies. The department also have collaboration with various organisations across the nation.

A person who completes degree in social work can contribute through their work have a  plethora of opportunities in various sectors such as government sectors, government initiated development projects,social welfare organisations,women and child sectors,  mental health counselling, health care or health, corporate social responsibility( CSR),geriatric care and correctional settings.  They also can get into the education sector and also can pursue MPhil. / PhD and enter the world of research.

 

On 26th August 2022, the first year MSW students has organised a flashmon as part of Women Equaity Day. The flash mob was enacted in college quadrangle at noon time. 30 students were actively participated. Morethan 500 students were spectators for the programme. A message was also delivered after the falshmob so that the theme of the day could be transmitted to everyone.

On 15th September 2022, the Department of Social Work in collaboraion with UNAI and Women Cell has organised an intercollegiate caricature competition commemorating International Day of democracy. First prize was secured by Ms. Treesa Ann Joseph, BSc Psychology of St Berchmans College Changanacherry.
