Additional Skill Acquisition Programme (ASAP)
Additional Skill Acquisition Programme (ASAP), is an initiative started in 2011 that focuses on imparting job-readiness skills to school and college students to enhance their employability levels. The initiative is implemented jointly by the Higher Education, General Education, Labour and Local Self Government Departments of the Government of Kerala.
The foundation module program consists of 180 hours of training in English speaking skills and basic Computer skills. The training also focuses on the all round personality development of the students.
The skill course involves training in different sectors including Hospitality, Beauty and Wellness, Construction, Plumbing, Agriculture, Food Processing, Media and Entertainment etc. The students are given training in any of the skill courses based on their interest and aptitude.
The idea of an internship is to impart live skills required to sustain the job market. The students are exposed to market procedures and trends which helps them to be updated with the current market requirement. It also acts as a link between theory and practice.
ASAP also attempts to provide placement assistance for the students. An exclusive Job portal has also been launched for this purpose.
The programme guarantees a shift in the thinking pattern, attitude, behaviour and confidence level of the students.
From 2016 the ASAP foundational programme has been offered in the College. The Foundation Module classes (180 hours) were conducted before or after regular class sessions on Saturdays and on public holidays. After successful completion of the course students were awarded the APTIS certificate endorsed by the British Council. It is an internationally recognised certificate. Currently in this COVID pandemic situation classes are being conducted via Google Meet.
