REPORT OF UNNAT BHARAT ABHIYAN (UBA) SURVEY
The UBA Survey, a crucial component of the Unnat Bharata Abhiyan, aims to promote cooperation between higher education institutions and rural communities in India in order to recognize developmental obstacles and create appropriate strategies to accelerate long-term development. As part of this initiative, second-year students from Assumption College were assigned the responsibility of conducting an extensive survey in the Vettithuruthu village.
Before the survey day, students from different academic disciplines were grouped into multiple teams, each under the leadership of a designated individual. At 9:30 am on the 20th of October, all students convened at St. Anthony's Church for the opening ceremony, which was overseen by Fr. Eby Sebastian and Fr. Varghese Nambimadam. Snacks and beverages were considerately provided on-site. Subsequently, the local ward representative, in collaboration with MGNREGA workers and MSW students from our college, directed the teams to various locations and assigned residences for the survey.
The residents of Vettithuruthu kindly collaborated with us, offering the essential data needed to fill out the questionnaires. Furthermore, each group was subdivided into smaller units, visiting 3-6 households to administer surveys. This procedure granted students an exceptional chance to interact with the rural community, which in turn facilitated a more profound comprehension of their requirements and ambitions.
A grand total of 19 students from the Department of Zoology took part in the survey.
The process of conducting the survey was a significant and unique encounter for all those involved. Once the surveys were finished, students gathered back at the church by 1 pm, handed in the forms to the assigned coordinator, and then departed. This was undoubtedly a remarkable experience, flawlessly orchestrated by Fr. Eby Sebastian, Dr. Nisha N. C., and Ms. Sherin Babu.
