MAINTENANCE OF BUTTERFLY GARDEN

Date: November 29, 2024

The Department of Zoology in association with the Biodiversity Club and Nature Club has undertaken an eco-friendly initiative to establish and maintain a butterfly garden on the college campus. This project, led by the zoology students under the guidance of faculty members, aims to promote biodiversity, enhance ecological awareness, and create a serene natural habitat for butterflies. The primary goal of the butterfly garden is to provide an environment conducive to attracting and sustaining various species of butterflies. It also serves as a practical learning platform for students, enabling them to study butterfly behavior, life cycles, and their role in pollination. The students conducted research to identify native plant species that serve as host plants for caterpillars and nectar sources for adult butterflies. Milkweed, Cassia, and Curry Leaf plants were planted to support caterpillar development. Marigolds, Lantanas, Ixora, and Zinnias were included to attract adult butterflies.
Regular maintenance of the garden is carried out by zoology students, ensuring the health and growth of plants. Activities include Watering and Weeding, Pruning and Mulching and Monitoring Butterfly Species.
