The Department of Home Science organized a seminar and intercollegiate quiz competition - "Nutritia 2023-24" on 13th February 2024. The seminar and quiz competition was hosted by Mrs. Jyothi S Krishnan, Chief Dietitian, Believers Church Medical College Hospital, Thiruvalla. Who spoke on the topic of "ICU Nutrition-Focusing on Enteral and Parenteral Nutrition". She explained the concepts and principles of enteral and parenteral nutrition, the types and indications of feeding tubes, the methods and complications of tube feeding, and the assessment and monitoring of nutritional status in critically ill patients. She also shared some case studies and practical tips on how to manage nutrition in ICU units.
The quiz competition was a thrilling and challenging contest that tested the knowledge and skills of the participants on various aspects of food science, nutrition, dietetics, physiology, community nutrition and food microbiology. Six teams from different colleges participated in the competition. Assumption College team got first prize and Alphonsa College, Pala and CMS College, Kottayam secured second and third prize in the quiz competition. The winners were awarded with cash prizes and certificates by the chief guest Mrs. Jyothi S Krishnan and the Vice Principal of the College Mrs. Anne Mary Joseph. The event was attended by the students and faculties of the Department and it also created a platform for learning and sharing about nutrition.
