KCHR Foundation Day Lectures 2024

PG Department of History and Research Centre, hosted the KCHR Foundation Day Lecture Series on 18 March 2024, from 10.00 am onwards at Powathil Hall. 47 students including research scholars and PG & UG along with department faculties participated in the lecture. Dr Kamakshy V welcomed the gathering and Rev Dr Thomas Joseph Parathara, Principal, Assumption College delivered the felicitation address. Dr P Sanal Mohan, Former Director KCHR & Former Professor, School of Social Sciences, Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam and Dr. Abey Thomas, Assistant Professor, Department of History, Christian College, Chengannur were the distinguish speakers. The theme of Prof P Sanal Mohan was ‘On the History of Emotions’. He tried to explain the significance of human emotion, the relation of emotions in societies and cultures as well as experiences and expression of emotions. On behalf of the department and college, Ms Linda T Shaji, Assistant Professor on Contract, PG Department of History delivered her words of gratitude. The second session was handled by Dr. Abey Thomas on the theme ‘Budhha at the Margins: Reflections on the Regional Histories of Buddhism in Kerala’. He stressed on developing methodologies of reading, understanding and representations of literary texts in the context of historical studies. He explained the rare references of Buddhism in Kerala and shared his experiences while dealing with a rare theme in history. Ms Jyolsna Elzabeth George, Assistant Professor, PG Department of History gave away the vote of thanks.
