The Department of Computer Science organized a Miyawaki Memorial webinar session for Computer Science students on 17 August 2021 at 3.00 pm. The session was conducted to pay respect and remembrance to a great Japanese botanist Akira Miyawaki. The method propounded by him i.e Miyawaki forest method was a really great deed for manhood. The event started by silent prayer. Rev. Fr Eby Sebastian formally welcomed the gathering. He further gave an outlook on the topic. The resource person was Mrs. Divya K. S, PhD Research Scholar in Botany at St. Thomas College, Palai. She gave an idea about who Akira Miyawaki is and his works on sustaining nature. Then she talked about the topic, ‘Dasa Pushpam’ or the ten sacred flowers of Kerala. These are the ten herbs traditionally significant to Keralites. These herbs are found almost everywhere in Kerala but we aren’t aware of them. So, she explained each herb very clearly. She gave a clear-cut idea of the myths roaming around about those herbs. The session went on very informative as she continued to talk about its qualities and medicinal applications. She ended her talk by creating awareness for conserving those ten herbs. The session was informative as well as quite interesting for students. Finally, Ms. Aleena P Mathew of third-year BSc Computer Science expressed her gratitude towards the resource person. She further thanked the teachers and the students who attended the session. 80 students attended the session. The session ended at 4.00 pm.
