The induction programme for first-year students by the Department of Computer Science was held from the 11th to the 13th of July, 2023. The programme was designed to introduce students to the department, the BSc Computer Science programme, and the available resources.
The programme began with a welcome and introduction session by Ms Sherin Babu, the Head of the Department. Dr Linz Tom then gave a presentation on the BSc Computer Science programme structure, syllabus, and evaluation. Ms Wincy Abraham followed with a session on logical thinking and reasoning, testing general knowledge and puzzles. A test for student categorisation followed this. Dr Roby Jose then gave a presentation on cyber security. On Wednesday, 12th July, Royal Treesa Joy and Gouri N.V. gave a presentation on metaverse and home automation titled AVANT GARDE 2023, a student-led initiative to promote computer science education.
On Thursday, 13th July, the Mathematics Department gave an induction on complementary mathematics. Ms Mary Jaya V.J. then presented on the relevance of studying electronics as a computer science student and familiarisation with electronics topics and hardware components. A test for student categorisation followed this. Dr Rani Oomman Panicker then presented an introduction to problem-solving and programming concepts. Fr. Eby Sebastian followed with a presentation on the historical progression of computer science and e-waste management.
The programme concluded with two bridge courses, one on electronics and one on programming, conducted by Ms Mary Jaya V.J. and Dr Rani Oomman Panicker, respectively. The induction programme was well-received by the students. They found the sessions informative and helpful in starting their computer science journey.

The session on Familiarization of Syllabus 2023 and Evaluation Related Matters was held on July 10, 2023, from 9:30 to 10:30 am. Ms Wincy Abraham conducted the session, and it was attended by all the first-year postgraduate students in the Computer Science department.
