On the World Wetlands Day 2022, i.e.2nd February, 2022, the association of the Chemistry Department ( AZIMUTH) of Assumption College Changanassery conducted an interdepartmental photography competition and a webinar session. Ms Anu James ( Faculty- Chemistry Department) coordinated the whole programme. The student coordinator was Subhadra J ( 2 nd DC Chemistry).
Interdepartmental Photography Contest
Subhadra J of 2nd DC Chemistry organized the photography contest as coordinator.The topic for the competition was “ Wetlands action for people and nature”.The final date of submission for the competition was 7th February, 2022. Over 15 students from various departments participated with lots of excitement and zeal. A panel of teachers examined the entries and winners were declared on 17th February 2022. Saranya K ( 1st MA History) won the first prize and Mable Antony ( 2nd DC Home Science) became the runner-up.
Webinar
The Department of Chemistry organized a Seminar on “ Wetlands action for people and nature”. The session was organized via Google meet on 5th February, 2022. The lecture was delivered by Mr. Jayakrishnan.G,A native of Mannar, member of Kerala Sastra Sahitya Parishad, Kottayam Nature Society, Activist of Alappuzha Natural History Society etc.
The session started at 6 pm. 40 participants attended the event. The event was compered by Anjitha S Kumar of 2nd DC chemistry. The programme started on a positive note with a prayer by Safna Navas of 2nd DC Chemistry. Gayatri S of 2nd DC Chemistry welcomed everyone to the gathering.
Mr Jayakrishnan delivered an excellent talk describing Wetlands and their importance in maintaining biodiversity and in carbon recycling, the threats faced and need for protection.The session ended with Teena George of 3rd DC Chemistry thanking the audience.
