Women Hygiene and Health Awareness

Date: November 27,2024

On 27 November 2024, the NSS unit of Assumption College Changanassery participated in a class on Menstrual Hygiene and Women's Health, organized in association with Brand Touch and Analytics Pvt Ltd, the Women’s Cell, and the Peace Club. Dr. Rajalakshmi led the session, which began at 2:15 PM in William Hall. The class focused on the significance of menstrual hygiene in maintaining overall women's health. Poor menstrual hygiene is responsible for 70% of reproductive diseases in women. She emphasized the importance of maintaining cleanliness during menstruation, recommending daily bathing and using clean, sun-dried clothes and undergarments in neutral, natural colors.

The session delved into various menstrual hygiene products, including sanitary pads, cloth pads, tampons, and menstrual cups. Cloth pads were praised for their environmental benefits and sustainability, although they require proper washing and should be replaced after three months. While widely used, sanitary pads were noted to be less eco-friendly due to their long decomposition period. Menstrual cups, often misunderstood, were presented as a better, reusable alternative that is both environmentally friendly and easy to use. The class concluded at 3:00 PM with a vote of thanks delivered by NSS volunteer Ammu Antony.
