Two Day Orientation Programme to the first year volunteers

Day 1

On August 6thth, 2024, the Two-day orientation program commenced for the first year NSS volunteers of Assumption College Changanassery. The presence of several esteemed guests graced the orientation program, Dr. E. N Sivadasan, Program coordinator of NSS Cell, MG University, Dr. Thomas Joseph, Principal, Dr. Thomas Varghese, Dean of Arts, Bharata Mata College, Thrikkakkara and Ms. Rajasree G,  Pathanamthitta District Coordinator NSS Cell, MG University participated in Day 1 programme.

The program began at 9:30 am at the Powathil Hall of Assumption College with the NSS choir singing the NSS anthem. The program officer, Dr Nisha NC delivered a welcome speech welcoming all the guests to the orientation program, which was followed by the presidential address delivered by Rev. Dr. Thomas Joseph Parathara. The inauguration of the program was marked by the lighting of the lamp, symbolizing the commencement of NSS activities for the academic year. Dr. E. N. Sivadasan, who has significantly contributed to the growth of the NSS and provided dedicated guidance, was then invited to deliver the inaugural address. Following this, Honorable Principal Rev. Dr. Thomas Joseph Parathara and Dr. Thomas Varghese Panakkalam were invited to honor Dr. E. N. Sivadasan for his commendable contributions to the NSS unit of MG University.

Dr. Thomas Varghese Panakkalam, Dean of Arts at Bharat Matha College, Thrikkakara, was invited to deliver a felicitation. He delivered an insightful and inspiring speech on the significance of the National Service Scheme in shaping the lives of young students. It emphasized the importance of doing good things in our life and how we are all capable of doing social services in our daily life even the small ones. Dr. Neenu Mathew, Program Officer, was then invited to give the vote of thanks. The first session began with Dr. Thomas Varghese Panakkalam speaking on the topic “History and Philosophy of NSS.”  The Voluntary Secretary, Ms. Gowri Nandana M S, was invited to give the vote of thanks.

The second phase of Day 1 of the orientation program commenced after lunch.  Dr. Neenu Mathew, the Program Officer, welcomed Ms. Rajasree G, Pathanamthitta NSS District Coordinator and Assistant Professor at STAS, Pathanamthitta Ms. Rajasree G. She handled the session on “NSS Camping Programs.” She emphasized that NSS is  not just about service but also the hardworks in activities that promote social welfare. She motivated the volunteers to think beyond personal gain and work towards the betterment of society. The Voluntary Secretary, Ms. Nandana E R, delivered the vote of thanks. The session concluded at 3:30 pm with the National Anthem.

Day 2

On day 2 of the orientation program, the program began at 9:30 am at the Powathil Hall of Assumption College with the NSS choir singing the NSS anthem.  The welcome speech was delivered by Dr Nisha NC, Program Officer welcomed Fr. Eldhose K. Joy Ernakulam District Coordinator, NSS Cell, MG University and Assistant Professor, St Kuriakose College, Kuruppampady.  The program was split into two sessions, with the first session being about “Transforming perspectives and lives through social actions through NSS” handled by Fr. Eldhose K. Joy. He talked  about the importance of loving ourselves and how we can build ourselves through the various activities by NSS. He reiterated the importance of the NSS motto, "Not me, But You" which reflects the selfless service and community focused spirit that all volunteers should embody.

The final session of the orientation program commenced after the lunch break. The NSS Unit of Assumption College conducted programs for "Team Building." Following this session, the First Year Volunteer Secretary once again delivered a vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to everyone followed by the national anthem at 3.30pm.
