Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana Campaign

Date: March 01,2024

The Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) was launched by the Government of India in 2016 to boost the adoption of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG)-based cooking fuel in the country. With a vision of benefitting 80 million women living below the poverty line (BPL), the programme aimed to provide capital subsidies for LPG connections and cooking stoves.

The NSS unit of Assumption College identified about 6 BPL families in the adopted villages, who were not having LPG connection, via surveys. Then an awareness campaign was conducted among those families regarding PMUY scheme, with the help of Ward Members, during mid February to March 2024. In association with Remya Gas Agency, Changanssery, the PMUY LPG connection was made available to 4 of those families.(3 families in Ward1 of Changanassery municipality, 1 family in Kooonamthanam)
