As part of Kerala Palliative Care Day Celebrations, on January 24th, 2024, a class on “Importance of Palliative Care” was held by Dr. Rajalekshmi S R (Project Medical Officer, Govt. Ayurveda Hospital Changanassery) accompanied with Dr. Hansu Sherief. The session revolved around the topic of Palliative care, its meaning and its history, the goals of such care, the problems faced by such patients, the principles of palliative care, home care and the persons included in the home care team. The topics were discussed more in details where the problems faced by the palliative patients were elaborated into; Physical, social, financial, emotional and spiritual problems. And more about how to properly care for a palliative patient by preventing bed sores, maintaining their personal hygiene, understanding their needs, providing them with comfort, keeping their bed clean and neat, feeding them at the right time, psychological care along with exercise and the prevention of physical deformity.
