The National Girl Child Day is celebrated in India every year on January 24th. It was initiated by the Ministry of Women and Child Development and the government of India, in order to spread public awareness about inequities that girls face in Indian society.
The NSS unit of Assumption College is celebrating this day, with 3 different programmes - a webinar, poster designing competition and pencil drawing competition.
The online webinar via Google Meet started at 7pm with a silent prayer. 100 volunteers s attended the meeting. Ms Niranjan Chandran welcomed the gathering. Ms Megha S Nair delivered an English speech on the significance of celebrating girl child day. Ms Aleena Mathew delivered an awareness speech about the rights of a girl child and to promote the importance of their education, health, and nutrition. The volunteers had a great session for understanding the importance of this day and how previlaged they are and how the women can contribute to the wealth and development of the nation. Then a video presentation was conducted and after that an online quiz about girl child day was organized. Ms Shalmiya Shaji secured the first prize. Ms Aparna A offered vote of thanks. The meeting was adjourned at 8pm.
