International Girl Child Day 2024

Date: October 15,2024

To commemorate the International Girl Child Day, the unit organized an awareness session on  Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POSCO) to the upper primary students of St. Ann’s High School, Changanassery. The programme aimed to educate children and young students on the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POSCO) Act, basic child protection rights, and to create awareness about distinguishing between good touch and bad touch. The session was organized to promote child safety and empower them with the knowledge to protect themselves. The volunteers, Ms. Goury Rajeev, Ms. Hanna Giboy, and Ms. Ann Mariya Robinson started by explaining the meaning and importance of the POSCO Act, that this Act was created to protect children from offenses of sexual assault, harassment, and pornography through simple examples and interactive discussions. It covers various rights and legal measures to ensure the safety and well-being of children. One of the key focuses of the session was educating children about the difference between good touch and bad touch. The volunteers also explained the importance of saying "NO" when they feel uncomfortable, and reporting such instances to trusted adults, such as parents, teachers, or guardians. They emphasized that children should never stay silent if they feel threatened and should always inform someone they trust. About 50 students participated in the awareness campaign
