Gender Sensitization Programme - Oct 7

The NSS Unit of Assumption College in association with the Department of Women and Child Development, Govt of Kerala under the "Kanal" project, conducted a "Gender Sensitization" programme on 7th October 2021 at 2.30pm. 95 NSS volunteers attended the live Zoom meeting and the whole college students (nearly 1200 students) attended the programme via YouTube live streaming. This project has been formulated with an aim to end all domestic and dowry abuse, empower women, and create awareness among the entire population. Smt. Jebin Lolitha Seyin, DWCDO, Kottayam, offered the welcome speech. Smt. Krishnendu Sudhi who is a gender trainee led the awareness session. She spoke about the issues on gender-related matters and things that are needed to change in the current world. She also spoke about the current state of sex education and all. She said that there is an importance of conducting awareness programs for parents to make them aware of gender equality and gender issues. Then parents should make their children aware of this from an early age. She reminded the audience about the education, economic participation, and empowerment to be activated in the current era. She also reminded the need to fight against gender discrimination faced in society and at home itself. After the session, Ms Jovan Maria Raju, NSS volunteer from BSc Computer Science offered thanks. The meeting ended at 4:30 p.m.
