Students are expected to maintain the highest standards of discipline and dignified manner of behaviour inside as well as outside the College campus and hostels. They shall abide by the rules and regulations of the College and should act in a way that highlights the discipline and esteem of the College.
A five day working schedule from Monday to Friday is followed.
Classes are scheduled from 9.30 a.m. to 4.00 p.m.
The first period will begin with a prayer which will be organized by the students.The student shall maintain complete silence and remain standing during the prayer.
All the students are expected to be present in the class well within time and late coming will result in loss of attendance for the corresponding hour.
Students shall rise from their seats when the teacher enters the class room and remain standing till the teacher takes her/his seat or they are allowed by the teacher to sit. Silence shall be observed during class hours.
Teachers shall be greeted appropriately when the teacher enters and leaves the class room.
Each session shall start with a short prayer. No student shall enter or leave the class room when the session is on without the permission of the teacher concerned.
Announcements to attend a programme must be promptly and strictly responded to.
Students are expected to check the Notice Boards every day.
If a teacher is absent, the class prefect should inform the concerned Department.
Each class will be entrusted to a Class Teacher and each student will have a mentor.
Students should follow the Green Protocol.
Strict silence should be observed in the Chapel and Library.
Discipline and decorum are expected from the students during programmes convened in the auditorium or elsewhere.
Strikes and similar demonstrations are not allowed.
Students having lab sessions, have to report to the lab directly in time and they are not expected to go to the class room during lab hours. Use of apron/lab coats may be used for safety measures during lab sessions.
In the events of Student seminars/project presentations etc., it is compulsory that all the students of the concerned class be present for the entire session.
Students can leave the campus during class hours only after getting a gate pass from the Principal, HoD, or the tutor and after making entry in the Gate Register maintained by the gate keeper.
Students are permitted to stay in the campus after class hours only with permission of Department / Faculty. No students shall wander or gather inverandah, corridor, and staircase etc. Do not spend much time in canteen, coffee shops etc.
All leave applications (Regular & Medical) shall be submitted in time, for sanction by HoD andconcerned teachers. Application for medical leave shall be accompanied by valid medical certificates.
All the students shall wear their identity cards, well displayed. Identity badge is a public documentand any teaching staff and non teaching staff shall have the right to peruse it. Denial of that aloneinvites disciplinary action.
Any dress code violation noticed within the campus will attract a fine of Rs.300 and could initiatefurther disciplinary actions.
As per the Govt. order, students shall not bring powered vehicles inside the campus.
Students are expected to maintain silence in the academic buildings to maintain the decorum and, anydeviant behavior such as hooting, whistling, loitering etc. will be treated as an instance of indiscipline.
For independent study, students are expected to use the class rooms, library or the demarcated areas ofthe academic building and shall not resort to sitting in staircases or circulation areas where they couldinterfere with the free movement.
Students are encouraged to make use of the library, common computing facilities and to involve inprofessional body activities or any program authorized by the college beyond class hours.
Access to academic buildings beyond the above timing and on holidays without written permissionfrom the concerned HoD will be treated as a case of indiscipline.
All the students are advised to follow the Assumption College Mobile Phone Policy and bring to the notice of theauthorities violations if any.
Accessing Social Networking Sites such as Facebook, Twitter etc. is prohibited within the collegecampus however access to these sites are permitted in hostel building during time slots specified bythe hostel wardens.
Keep the campus neat and clean. Do not put any waste anywhere in the campus except in the wastebaskets kept. Any violation of this shall invite a fine.
Consumption of intoxicants/psychotropic substances in any form or smoking or using chewinggum, panmasala etc. are strictly prohibited.
It is strongly advised to refrain from activities such as scribbling or noting on walls, door orfurniture which could deface the college and destroy the academic ambiance.
Carefully handle the furniture, equipment, fixtures and appliances of the college and lab.
Careless handling/misuse of the above could result personal injuries or damage to property
Follow safety precautions near moving machines and electrical installations. In the event ofdamage of property, the responsible students will have to bear the cost of replacement/repairwith fine.
Students are not permitted to arrange any unauthorized celebrations and decorations of anymagnitude in the campus.
Students are not permitted to distribute or display any material such as posters, banners, pamphlets from outside both physically and electronically in the campus without the permission of the competentauthority.
Students are expected to make use of academic, co-curricular and extracurricular facilitiesavailable to the optimum levels. This will certainly make them physically fit, academicallycompetent, mentally alert and socially sensitive.
Students who intend to represent the college in intercollegiate events shall take prior permissionfrom the concerned head of the department. Participants for inter collegiate events will be selected based on parameters such asacademic performance, attendance, character, existing academic pressure and competence of thestudent in the proposed event for participation.
On duty leave applications will not be entertained beyond 10 working days from the actual dateof leave under any circumstance. The maximum number of on duty leave admissible is restrictedto 10 days per semester.
During semester examinations of 3Hr period, students have to occupy the seat 15 minutes beforethe commencement of the examination and students are not allowed to leave the hall before two and half hours from the beginning of the exam.
The College Union will be formed as per Lyngdoh Committee recommendations approved by theHonorable Supreme Court of India. It will be based on a parliamentary (indirect) system given inSection No.6.2.4 of Lyngdoh Committee recommendations.
Political activity in any form is not permitted in the College campus. Unauthorized meetings,propaganda work, processions or fund collections are forbidden within the College, hostels, andoutside the college.
Harassing juniors, ill treatment to other fellow students or any such form of ragging isobjectionable and liable to be treated as criminal offence by the law enforcing agencies as per thedirectives of Hon'ble Supreme Court of India.
The anti-ragging policy and the Anti-Ragging Committee of the College is commensurate with the UGC regulations- “Curbing the menace of Ragging in Higher Educational Institutions (third amendment), Regulations, 2016.”
Pay all types of fees, mess bills etc. in advance or in time, which will avoid fines.
Any violation of the above rules will invite penalty in the form of warning, fine, bringing ofparents or any course of corrective measure as found suitable by any staff member or higherauthority of the College.
Expulsion from the College is enough for expulsion from the hostel.
In case of any instance of noncompliance of existing rules or any observed matter/behavior thatdeviates from the vision and mission of Assumption, all the staff members are empowered to initiatedisciplinary procedure by filling in a standard form which in turn may lead to the constitution ofan enquiry committee and further proceedings.
Students can voice their grievances in the Grievance Redressal Cell/ put the grievances in the boxes or can personally meet the Principal.
Fine policy of Assumption: The money collected from the students as fine on instances of noncompliancewith the rules and norms will be kept in a separate account and will be utilized for purposes such ascharity.
ASSUMPTION COLLEGE MOBILE PHONE POLICY
Students are strictly prohibited from the use of mobile phones both in the hostels and on the campus (via G. O. RT/ No.346/05/Higher Edn. dtd. 1-03-2005). Suspension will be imposed in case of violation.
The purpose of this policy is to establish clear cut guidelines regarding the usage of mobile phones insidethe campus. This policy is applicable to all those who enter the campus.
Realizing the importance of communication and the possible impact of mobile phone usage inside the campus, the following guidelines are arrived at.
Students are not permitted to use mobile phones within the campus.
Students who are staying in college hostels should not bring the mobile phones to the college.
Day scholars carrying mobile phones to the college shall deposit the same in the designated place before 9.25 AM and can collect the same after 4.00 PM.
The mobile phones shall be kept in silent mode while depositing in the designated place.
All the staff members are empowered to confiscate mobile phones found with students violating the above rules.
Students violating the above rules will be fined an amount of Rs 500/- and the confiscated mobile phones will be returned to the students only after the completion of their study.
Faculty members shall not take the mobile phones to the class rooms and attend phone calls during their class lectures.
