Assumption College, affiliated to University of Kerala in 1949, is at present affiliated to Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam. Included under section 2(f) and 12 B of the UGC Act, the College was accredited by the NAAC in the year 2000. The College was reaccredited successively by NAAC, with ‘A’ Grade in 2007 & 2014. This is a Christian minority institution established under article 30(I), Constitution of India. Owned and managed by the Archdiocese of Changanassery, it was established mainly to cater to the needs of Catholics of the Archdiocese of Changanassery. The Archbishop of Changanassery is the Patron of the College. The management of the College is vested in a managing board consisting of the Vicar-General of the Archdiocese (Ex-officio President), Principal (Ex-officio Secretary), Procurator, Vice- Principal and Bursar. The other members are nominated by the Patron.
The Governing Body of the College guide the college in fulfilling the objectives for which the college has been granted autonomous status. The Body recommends the starting of new programmes, recruitment of Teaching Faculty, approval of the annual budget, fixing rates of remuneration, honorarium, TA, DA and incidental expenses related to examination and tabulation; approval of result publication and perform such other functions and institute committees, as may be necessary and deemed fit for the proper development of the College. The term of the Governing Body shall be for three years except in the case of UGC nominee who shall have a term of five years.
The Academic Council of the college comprises of the following members: -
1. The Principal (Chairman)
2. All the Heads of Departments in the college
3. Four teachers of the college representing different categories of teaching staff
4. Four experts/academicians from outside the college
5. Three nominees of the university
The functions of the Academic Council are: -
Scrutinize and approve the proposals with or without modification of the Boards of Studies with regard to courses of study, academic regulations, curricula, syllabi and modifications thereof, instructional and evaluation arrangements, methods, procedures relevant thereto etc., provided that where the Academic Council differs on any proposal, it shall have the right to return the matter for reconsideration to the Board of Studies concerned or reject it, after giving reasons to do so.
Make regulations regarding the admission of students to different programmes of study in the college keeping in view the policy of the Government.
Make regulations for sports, extra-curricular activities, and proper maintenance and functioning of the playgrounds and hostels.
Recommend to the Governing Body proposals for institution of new programmes of study.
Recommend to the Governing Body institution of scholarships, studentships, fellowships, prizes and medals, and to frame regulations for the award of the same.
Advise the Governing Body on suggestions pertaining to academic affairs made by it.
Perform such other functions as may be assigned by the Governing Body.
Finance Committee of the college comprises of –

The Finance Committee act as an advisory body to the Governing Body, to consider: (a) Budget estimates relating to the grant received/receivable from UGC, and income from fees, etc. collected for the activities to undertake the scheme of autonomy; and (b) Audited accounts for the above.
