PhD History

The Department of History is a recognized Research Centre of Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam. The University has also granted permission to conduct Course Work for PhD scholars who have registered from 2011 onwards. The Course Work started from 16 January 2014. The department promotes collaborative researches with national and regional historical research institutes like Indian Council for Historical Research (ICHR), Kerala Council for Historical Research (KCHR)etc.

Eligibility

Eligibility Criteria

For admissions to the Ph.D. programmes, one should qualify the following eligibility criteria:

• Candidates should possess a Post graduate degree in any social science discipline from MG University or any other university which is considered as equivalent by MGU, with a minimum of 55% aggregate. For SC/ST candidates, one should have a minimum of 50% in PG degree
• Candidates awaiting the results of PG degree can also apply for the programme after  qualifying the entrance exam  conducted by Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam
• Candidates who qualify JRF or NET can apply for the research programme. They are exempted from the entrance test.
